Believe it or not, bloggers (who need to stay relevant by posting content) and freelancers (who need to stay in touch with current and potential clients) are most in need of a digital detox. A digital detox entails refraining from using digital devices, such as switching off cell phones, tablets and computers. Digital detox benefits are apparent in physical and mental health; it can also improve social relationships.
In the past I have written about the benefits of digital detox and specific digital detox retreats for Healing Holidays, a specialist wellness tour operator in the UK. To write the digital detox feature for Florida’s RSW Living magazine, I gained additional insight from the following digital detox and technology experts, which is incorporated throughout. (Some are in favour of digital detox retreats, while some believe that controlling digital device usage in everyday life is more effective.)
A special ‘thank you’ to:
- Hilda Burke, integrative psychotherapist and life coach
- Liat Joshi, author of ‘How to Unplug Your Child’
- Laura Willis & Anna Kotwinski, co-founders of Shine Offline
- Villa Stéphanie and Brenner’s Park-Hotel & Spa
I was really excited that my article about digital detox benefits made the cover story for the July-August issue of RSW Living, which also contains my article on animal massage. Read more of my print and digital features here.
The digital detox article also mentions the importance of staying present (away from digital devices) during holidays and offers simple tips to reduce digital device usage. Click here to read a digitized version of the digital detox print article.
